Daydream #12: it could have happened by the fruitcrate February 19, 2007

Posted on February 20, 2007

Bob is standing next to the FruitGuys crate cutting an avocado in half. Jane's new soft-soled shoes make her quiet like a cat as she walks to the fruit. There's a song in the air that Jane can't exactly put her finger on. Then it hits her: "Bob are you humming Safety Dance?"
"What," he says trying to play it down.
Jane never truly mastered the art of raising one eyebrow but somehow the lower half of her forehead is possessed - it tilts to the sky like a perverse see-saw.
"Listen, I'm sure you were humming that Men without hats song, you know the safety dance."
He shrugs and limply nods no.
"Come on," she says starting to sway with a slight jig. "You know: you can dance if you want to, you can leave your friends behind and if your friends don't dance and if they don't' dance then their no friends of mine. - right?"
Bob smiles for a second, looks down at the avocado as tears start to fill his eyes. "It was this thing," he says holding up the fruit - the first time I had one was when I was listening to that song. I was a teenager working in a grocery store in the 80's. The staff was teasing me - saying it was an alligator pear and I should just take a bite. I didn't know you had to slice, pull out the pit with a knife, sprinkle with a little salt and lemon and BAM!" he yells, "tasty explosion! Plus all those hours of avocad-mud facials in my college years. . ." He looks up a bit surprised. Both Jane and Bob know they've shared one of those office secrets. "Well, I've got some more paperwork to do," he says hastily and walks off.
"Bob," Jane calls after him. "Um -- Thanks, I like these too." Jane grabs the other Avocado and smiles.

We got such an overwhelming positive response from the avocados last week that we thought we would include them again. Check out last week’s newsletter on line for nutritional information on the avocado at:
And remember, you never know what will happen at the fruit crate.
FruitGuys eco box and its many uses.
Kudos this week to Dani and Betty at Youngman, Ericsson and Low. Dani has found a new use for our fruit crate. You may know that we encourage recycling as the box is 65% post consumer cardboard and we’ve designed it to fit file folders (standard size). However Dani uses the box w/the dividers and the paper pads for storing holiday ornaments. Very cool and clever. Let us know if you find something fun for the box and we’ll pass it along to others.
Enjoy and be fruitful!
